Fish show their colours with almost any food, but their colouring can be intensified by certain types of food, just like in humans with a diet of carrots. Mating or fighting males show how intense the colours can be in fish. JBL does not use cheap carotene, however, but natural astaxanthin (also a carotene) obtained from krill shrimp and spirulina algae. This is considerably more expensive, but it is a natural way to promote the beautiful colours of the fish.
The composition of JBL PRONOVO COLOR has been chosen so that it can also be used as a staple food like JBL PRONOVO BEL.
The biological species concept for ornamental fish:
In addition to a staple food such as JBL PRONOVO BEL or JBL PRONOVO COLOR for community aquariums, your fish can also be fed with foods from the JBL PRONOVO species concept. Within the species concept, you can add food ideally suitable for particular fish species or select alternatives for the main food. It’s no problem if, for example, your fighting fish also eats the food for your barbels and vice versa. It is only important that you offer the right food for each group of fish. Variety is always a good thing!
Do you want to be sure you are feeding your neons, armored catfish and others exactly the right food? No problem: in the JBL species concept you will find a bite-sized granulate for neons (and other small characins) whose composition is precisely adapted to the needs of the fish, including insects: the JBL PRONOVO NEON. In their natural habitats in South America, neons live in very nutrient-poor blackwater biotopes and are dependent on small bite-sized plankton. Armored catfish, on the other hand, live on the ground and have a different food spectrum. The JBL PRONOVO CORYDORAS (Corydoras = scientific name of the armored catfish genera) contains the appropriate raw materials, such as shrimps and spirulina.
