Christmas Tree Worms Rock
Christmas Tree Worms are mesmerizing reef inhabitants that naturally embed themselves in Porites coral. These tiny, filter-feeding worms display vibrant, spiral-shaped crowns in shades of red, blue, yellow, and white, resembling miniature Christmas trees. They create a stunning, dynamic display as they extend and retract their crowns in response to movement and water flow.
Porites coral serves as the host for these worms, providing a stable and encrusting structure. This SPS coral requires stable water conditions, moderate to high lighting, and moderate flow to thrive. Unlike many other coral-inhabiting organisms, Christmas Tree Worms do not harm their host but rely on it for shelter.
Since the worms are filter feeders, they require a mature reef system with plenty of plankton and dissolved nutrients. Target feeding with phytoplankton or other fine particulate foods can help sustain them. With proper care, a Christmas Tree Worm Rock with Porites becomes a captivating and unique addition to any reef tank, bringing vibrant color, movement, and natural beauty.
